The Treaty of Versailles (1919) was the settlement of peace that brought the war to a close against Germany. Yet again, like a reflection of the Congress of Vienna, the Paris Peace Conference was an affair of immeasurable complexity and responsibility, all wrapped up into a stately socialized event. President Wilson killed his own treaty, not because he wanted to, but because he was forced to by the reservations put on his treaty. Yet even before the treaty was signed, it sparked criticism and controversy.
